NRT and offline Absorbing Aerosol Height products available

The following offline Absorbing Aerosol Height (AAH) products are available for download from the AC SAF / FMI archive:

Offline AAH from GOME-2A data:
Algorithm version: 1.32
Product ID: O3M-69

Offline AAH from GOME-2B data:
Algorithm version: 1.32
Product ID: O3M-79

Offline AAH from GOME-2C data:
Algorithm version: 1.32
Product ID: O3M-365

Furthermore, the dissemination of these near real-time AAH products via EUMETCast started on 26th November 2020:

NRT AAH from GOME-2A data:
Algorithm version: 1.32
Product ID: O3M-68

NRT AAH from GOME-2B data:
Algorithm version: 1.32
Product ID: O3M-78

NRT AAH from GOME-2C data:
Algorithm version: 1.32
Product ID: O3M-364

The NRT access points are:

EUMETCast Europe:
Channel: E1B-SAF-3
Multicast address: 224.223.222.28
PID: 500

EUMETCast Terrestrial:
Channel: T01-SAF
Multicast Address: 232.223.222.6

Absorbing Aerosol Height is provided for locations where the Absorbing Aerosol Index is above 4. The AAH uses the O2-A Band to retrieve an effective scattering height of thick aerosol plumes in cases like strong volcanic eruptions and large forest fires with high content of volcanic ash or smoke. The validation report show AAH examples for Australian forest fires.

AC SAF will also release AAH data records in January 2021, covering the following time periods:

GOME-2A: 23/01/2007 - 31/07/2018

GOME-2B: 12/12/2012 - 31/07/2018

The complete reprocessing of the AAH product will be done in 2021 after the L1b reprocessing in EUMETSAT. At that point, there will be a homogenous data set since start of the GOME-2 measurements (23/01/2007) towards future in form of reprocessed data record and continuous offline and NRT processing processed with the same algorithm.

The discontinued GOME-2A/B AAI-MSC (Absorbing Aerosol Index from the main science channels) products currently in the archive will be moved to a repository which will be available only via special request to the AC SAF Helpdesk. However, the AAI is an integral part of AAH products and thus, those parameters will be available within the AAH files in future. The AAI from the Polarization Measurement Device (AAI-PMD) will stay as it is and thus, is available via the AC SAF archive and EUMETCast.
