GOME-2B L1b product - switch to solar model:

The Metop-B satellite with GOME-2 on-board is currently in drifting orbit. As a consequence there are periods during which the GOME-2 instrument will not able to carry out its daily solar calibration measurement.

At the 6th of November, the GOME-2B L1b processing will be switched to the empirical solar model, due to the 3rd period of solar visibility loss.

It is expected that the quality of both L1b and L2 products might undergo slight changes during this period, and there will be an associated risk of degraded product quality for GOME-2B products.

GOME-2C L1 and L2 data is unaffected.

EUMETSAT will closely monitor the performance of the L1b product quality during the solar gap period and we appreciate any feedback from you concerning data quality.

The end of the solar visibility gap is expected by the 28th March 2026.
